Sessions may support concerns such as anxiety, depression, stress, life transitions, relationships, identity, and other moderate mental health challenges. Our student counsellors can draw from a range of therapy approaches and receive training, onboarding, and supervision to help ensure you receive thoughtful, clinically supported care.

04

What is Low Cost Counselling?

Low cost counselling is therapy offered at a reduced rate so that more people can access mental health support. At Gibson Mental Health, this may include sessions with student counsellors who are completing their clinical training under supervision, or sliding scale options. Sliding scale means the cost of counselling is adjusted based on what you can reasonably afford, rather than charging one fixed rate for everyone. The goal is simple: if you need counselling, finances should not be the reason you cannot get started. Low cost counselling is designed for people who want meaningful support and a more affordable way to begin therapy.

05

What does Low Cost Counselling include?

Low cost counselling can include the same core elements as regular counselling: assessment, talk therapy, emotional support, coping tools, goal-setting, psychoeducation, treatment planning, and support for concerns such as anxiety, depression, stress, relationships, identity, life transitions, and other moderate mental health challenges. The main difference is the cost, not the intention or quality of care.

06

How do you access Low Cost Counselling?

Accessing low cost counselling starts with reaching out and letting us know that affordability is a concern. You do not need to over-explain or prove your financial situation. We take people at their word and do our best to match you with an option that fits your needs and budget. This may include a student counsellor, a sliding scale rate, or guidance toward another appropriate resource if we are not the right fit. You can book a free intro session to ask questions, talk about what you are looking for, and see whether low cost counselling at Gibson Mental Health makes sense for you.

07

Who is Low Cost Counselling for?

Low cost counselling may be a good fit if you are a student, between jobs, under financial stress, paying out of pocket, without benefits, or simply unable to afford standard therapy rates right now. You do not need to wait until things feel unmanageable. If you are dealing with stress, anxiety, low mood, relationships, life transitions, or moderate mental health concerns and cost is getting in the way, low cost counselling may help bridge that gap.

08

Resources

Helpful low cost counselling resources include student counselling clinics, community counselling agencies, university counselling centres, family doctors, Here to Help BC, crisis lines, and local non-profit mental health services. If you are unsure whether low cost counselling is the right fit, booking a free consultation can be a helpful first step. Together, we can explore what you need and what options may be available.
