What to Expect

Depression can make life feel heavy and difficult to navigate. Our counsellors offer a steady, compassionate space to talk through what has been happening and begin making sense of it. Whether you are experiencing diagnosed depression, grief, burnout, low mood, or situational depressive symptoms, counselling can help you feel less alone and more supported. Sessions move at a pace that fits your capacity, while gently helping you reconnect with stability, meaning, and hope. We offer depression counselling in Vancouver for anyone looking for in-person support, or virtually if you are anywhere else in BC. One in four people struggle with depression at some point in their lives, and whether you have a diagnosis of depression or are struggling with situational depressive symptoms, we are here to help.

02.
Clinical Approach

Depression counselling starts with understanding the shape depression is taking in your life. For some people, it looks like sadness or hopelessness. For others, it feels more like numbness, irritability, exhaustion, withdrawal, or losing touch with who they used to be. Our approach to depression therapy draws from evidence-based methods like Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), mindfulness techniques, and person centred approaches to build a personalized plan for you. Together, we look at what is keeping you stuck and begin building small, realistic steps toward routine, connection, energy, and relief.

03.
Expected Outcomes

Healing from depression is often gradual. The aim is to manage symptoms, strengthen support, and help life feel more manageable again. Counselling can also help uncover the patterns or past experiences that may be contributing to your depression. Over time, therapy can help you feel more connected to yourself, others, and the parts of life that feel important.

Definition of Depression

Depression is more than sadness. It can affect how you think, feel, move, sleep, eat, relate, and experience yourself. Some people feel weighed down and hopeless. Others feel flat, disconnected, irritable, or unable to enjoy things they used to care about. Depression can make basic tasks feel overwhelming and can slowly shrink a person’s world through withdrawal, avoidance, and loss of energy. It is not laziness, weakness, or a lack of effort. Many people experiencing depression are trying very hard to keep going.

05

Symptoms of Depression

Depression can affect mood, body, thinking patterns, and behaviour. You may feel sad, empty, numb, hopeless, irritable, guilty, or disconnected from yourself and others. Physically, depression can bring fatigue, sleep changes, appetite changes, body heaviness, restlessness, or feeling slowed down. It can also make it harder to concentrate, make decisions, feel motivated, or believe things will improve. Many people begin pulling away from others, avoiding responsibilities, cancelling plans, procrastinating, or losing interest in hobbies, work, school, relationships, and daily routines. Often, things that used to bring joy no longer seem to. Depression becomes a concern when these changes persist over a longer period of time, causing distress and an interference with daily life.

06

Signs you may be Struggling with Depression

You may be struggling with depression if life feels heavier, flatter, or harder to engage with than it used to. You might feel tired no matter how much you rest, disconnected from people you care about, or unable to enjoy things that once felt meaningful. If getting through the day is taking more effort than usual, counselling may help.

07

Related Issues to Depression

People who struggle with depression may also experience anxiety, grief, trauma, ADHD, substance use concerns, sleep problems, chronic stress, burnout, loneliness, low self-esteem, relationship stress, or difficulty with motivation and life direction.
